If You’re Happy & You Know It, Tilt & Shift

No it’s not a nursery rhyme or a highland jig, it’s a photography process created by using a lens or editing technique.

Tilt and shift is a technique used to make objects and or people seem toy like. Using this technique within the camera requires a lens designed specifically for tilt and shift which enables the photographer to alter the plane of sharpness within the composition to produce optical tricks. They are used widely within the architectural, landscape and product photography because it allows for a more pinpointed focal point. However this method is also used to produce some quirky images making subjects appear like toy models.

The technique can be reproduced in Photoshop using images taken from a high vantage point and by changing the focal plane within the image by adding blur. Changing the saturation can also produce results that look very effective.
